SAFETY EQUIPMENT

The boat has a Viking 4-man self-inflatable life raft fitted in a box on deck in front of the mast. Around the mast are two grannybars that make it easier and safer to work at sea, especially when using the Gennaker. An EPIRB is mounted next to the companionway. In the forward locker, you’ll find four inflatable life vests, 3 of them with safety latches. They also have clip-on safety lines. You’ll also find 2x jack safety lines, two first aid boxes + additional bandages and equipment, 4x fire extinguishers, and a fire/smoke/carbon-monoxide alarm onboard. In the aft cockpit locker is a black 14mm line used as a boom preventer.

ELECTRONICS

In 2020, two 190Ah Lithium batteries were installed, and in 2023, each was upgraded with a JK Bluetooth 200A BMS. On the solar arch, two high-quality half-cell REC solar panels were mounted on an aluminum frame, along with GPS and AIS antennas. These panels are rated at 570W but have produced up to 690W on the sunniest days, maxing out the solar charger at 49.6A (see picture). The engine starter battery, replaced in 2024, is 90Ah. This boat is fully energy-self-sufficient and has spent most of the past five years off-grid. The galley is equipped with an electric kettle, toasting iron, and hot induction plate, all operating efficiently on battery power. Additionally, the 12V watermaker runs perfectly off the batteries.

List of onboard electronics:

Alpine 8” active subwoofer behind couch with remote control ASUS 27” monitor in salon SAIL AND RIG The mainsail, genoa, lazy bag, and standing rigging were replaced in La Linea and Gibraltar in 2021 before crossing the Atlantic. All running rigging has been replaced during the last few years and is in excellent condition. The gooseneck was reinforced with an additional bracket and a longer pin bolt. The previous owner replaced the furling system aprox 2017. There is a spinnaker pole mounted in front of the mast. The Gennaker got a patch in 2021, but works well and is easy to set and take down due to it’s sock. You’ll find a bag with various blocks, shackles, locking pins etc onboard as well.

GROUND TACKLE

The Lofrans winch was serviced in 2021, and I upgraded to a Rocna 25kg spade anchor and 75m of 10mm galvanized chain. The old Delta 20kg + 25m chain is stored and functions as a backup. A Bruice-style stern anchor and a foldable dinghy anchor also exist onboard. The windlass relay and remote controller were replaced in 2023. There is also a wireless box with remote controllers onboard, but they are not installed.

BOTTOM AND HULL

All through hull fittings have been replaced with True Design composites and are in great shape. In 2021, the bottom was scraped down to gel-coat, faired, and treated with five coats of International Interprotect 2-component Epoxy. No signs of osmosis were observed. The keel was grinded down to bare metal and treated with metal primer before adding 5 coats of Interprotect. At the same time, the ship sides were sanded down and faired before they were treated with one coat of International Interprotect and spray painted three coats of International Perfection paint. It is very easy to maintain and stays shiny. The stern swimming platform has gotten some nicks and scratches over the years from dinghies and canoes bumping into it and will benefit of a new coat of paint. There is two unopened spare kits of International Perfection onboard for this job. The rudder was damaged in Greece later that year and has been opened and re-built by professionals as an insurance job. They claimed that it has been made stronger than original. Shaft seal and skeg hinge were also inspected, and got new bolts. In 2023 I repainted the bottom with 3 coats of Sea Hawk self eroding bottom paint, the two lower layers in dark blue and the outer in light blue. Anodes and cutlass bearing was also replaced. The bottom is still light blue and I assume the bottom job is good for at least another two seasons. Two port-lights in the front cabin were leaking, so they were taken out and re-installed with new sealant and Lexan backing plates instead of wood. Deck window in the galley were replaced in 2021 due to a crack.

ENGINE

A Volvo Penta D2-55 C complete with new shaft and 3 blade folding prop were installed in 2005 when the boat still was in Norway. The engine has been maintained well and serviced with new oil and filters every season, in addition to some replaced service parts: Damper plate/coupling replaced in 2021 Fresh Water Pump were replaced in 2022, system flushed and the heat exchanger cleaned. Sea water filter housing replaced with Vetus in 2022 Open air filter 2022 Fuel tank opened and cleaned in 2022 Exhaust elbow replaced in 2023 Engine oil, filter, fuel filter, and drive belt replaced in 2024

PROPANE

The boat has two European Campingaz bottles and one big US bottle including regulators and connections to use both with the onboard propane system. All propane hoses are date-tagged and within expiry dates. Onboard is also a Kuuma Propane BBQ from 2022 that works well. A new bracket is needed if you want to mount it on the pushpit rail.

SAILING HISTORY

To my knowledge, the boat was sold new in Canada and came to Norway later. I believe she did a round trip to the Caribbean at some point, as there is an old picture on the wall of her in tropical waters. The previous owner sailed her from Norway to the Mediterranean in 2015 and cruised there until I bought her in 2019. I did some sailing up and down the coast before winter storing her in Cartagena where we got stuck in Covid lockdown. A good lot of upgrades and maintenance were done during this period. I spent the following 2020 season sailing from Spain to Morocco, the Balearic Islands, and Sardinia, and then I circumnavigated Sicily. Ellidah spent the winter in Licata Marina and got her yearly service and upgrades before we kicked off the next season. I then went to Tunisia in 2021, where we did the bottom and paint job. Next, we continued to Malta and then the Ionian in Greece before turning around and taking roughly the same route back to Almerimar in Spain, where she was stored for a few months before I started preparing for the Atlantic Crossing. She got a full service of the engine and all other systems. We then sailed to La Linea to replace the standing rigging. Next up was picking up a fresh set of brand new Elvstrøm sails in Gibraltar and started looking for a good weather window. In December 2021, we left Gibraltar, sailed to the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, and crossed the Atlantic to St. Martin. We left Mindelo on January 2, 2022, and arrived 15 days later after a fantastic journey. I continued up to the BVIs, then island-jumped south to Trinidad, where I lifted the boat out and stored her for hurricane season. When I got back in 2023, I gave her a new cutlass bearing and new bottom paint, among many other things. Next, I sailed back up to Martinique to install the new watermaker before continuing west to the ABC Islands, Colombia, and finally, Panama. The boat is now in Shelter Bay Marina, ready for her new owner to continue the journey. My plan was to continue into the Pacific and beyond and that is what she has been equipped and prepared for. However, I need to take a brake from the cruising life for some time to attend to family and other matters back home. That is my reason for selling her. She has been a safe and excellent boat to cruise and live on and I am confident she will take as good care of her new owners as she has done to me.

SPECIAL FEATURES OF YOUR YACHT

Ellidah is ready to go anywhere. Fuel and water tanks are full, yearly service has been done and she is more or less turn key ready for new adventures. Load up your things and go cruising. Not only is she in great condition and has all the equipment for a comfortable journey, but she has been tested and proven seaworthy in good and bad weather for years while I have lived onboard and sailed her.

ACCIDENTS AND MISHAPS

The rudder got damaged in Greece and had to be rebuilt. This was done by professionals as an insurance job. While preparing for a new paint job, we found previously repaired hull damage on the port side. A few additional layers of fiberglass were applied, and this is no longer visible. Some stanchions and the galley window were replaced after the boat dragged anchor into a motor boat in 2021 in Ibiza. The full story of this incident is available online if you google “Ellidah Ibiza.” There is still a slight crack in the wood above the stove, but no structural damage. The window over the chart table leaks a few drops of water during heavy rainfall. Prop axle strut were bent from getting the dinghy rope into the propeller. This was repaired in Trinidad and I also replaced the cutlass bearing. No issues afterwards. The hour counter on the Volvo Penta Display has stopped working. The display needs to be replaced to confirm the engine hours. The solar arch had a crack on the starboard side, the side I always have the outboard when lifting the dinghy. This was welded and reinforced in Carriacou in 2023 and is holding strong. The diesel heater has not been used in a long time and needs service. Some of the air ducting also needs to be replaced before it can be used. The zippers on the bimini are in a bad state and don't fit the ones on the cockpit enclosure (which also has a broken window). Some of the stitching is about to fail, so it either needs some patches and water proofing spray or a replacement. We have hit the bottom twice, both at very low speeds. The boat has been out of the water a few times since then, and no damage has been found. The plate for the windlass was rotten when I bought the boat and was redone with new wood and fiberglass. One starboard couch cushion has a yellow stain that won’t come off. The dinghy has a few patches but holds the air well. One of the wind instruments won’t connect to the wireless interface. Probably an easy fix. The navigation button on the chart plotter has come off, but it still works.
