Spirit of Afric is an Argossy 39, designed by Bill Dixon and built in 2000 in Scotland with a welded steel hull and deck, fitted out in Glen Afric with a custom interior built in solid oak from a single oak tree from the Glen.
She is a proven bluewater cruiser having already circumnavigated once and she is ready to go around again.
With 52' bridge clearance she can get under all the bridges of the intracoastal and the shallow 5' draft makes her ideal to explore the Bahamas
Rigged as a cutter with the lines handled from the comfort and safety of the wheel pedestal in the centre cockpit with the assistance of an autopilot and Pacific Plus windvane self steering.
With two double cabins and a single head with shower. she sleeps 7 with a walkaround double berth in the after master cabin, a vee berth in the forecabin which can become another double, two more berths in the convertible saloon and a pilot berth in the workshop.
There is a dependable 60hp Volvo for auxillary propulsion and adequate tankage, 99 gallons of diesel in two tanks and 90 gallons of fresh water plus a Seafresh watermaker for self-sufficiency.
The Kohler 4.5kva diesel generator was installed in 2019 to charge the 600ah battery bank which was replaced in 2020 plus a Martec wind generator.
A diesel Eberspacher cabin heater provides comfort for the higher latitiudes and the decks are covered with non-skid faux teak for safety.
The galley contains a separate fridge and freezer and there is even a washing machine.
The instrumentation has mostly been replaced with current Raymarine i70, communications are by DSC VHF a long range SSB, Iridium sat phone plus radar and Navtex.
