2002 Maine Cat 30

Bristol, Rhode Island

$135,000

Kismet is a 2002 model year Maine Cat 30 that was not sold and launched until 2005.

The Maine Cat 30 is a lightweight, elegant cruising catamaran designed as the ultimate family cruising multihull. Her low profile and aerodynamic styling produce a "slippery" shape easily driven with a modest sail plan. It is a simple live aboard cruiser for a short weekend getaway or the cruise of a lifetime. The combination of the highest quality marine materials and hardware, together with advanced building techniques, produce a lightweight composite assembly that is capable of handling offshore conditions and will remain trouble free for years with a minimum of effort.

The Maine Cat 30 sails flat (which is comfortable), has a draft of two feet (bring her up to the beach), and is a real sailing machine (light helm, points high, speeds to 12 knots). She is a delightful performance cruising catamaran with excellent visibility in any direction. All sail and engine controls are within easy reach of the helmsman. Her fine entry, buoyant ends, and excellent underwing clearance produce an easy, relaxing motion in a seaway. One can relax in the huge deck salon and aft cockpit areas of the 8' x 11' open bridgedeck with a hardtop enclosed with vinyl clears.

  • Starboard Engine: Yamaha 9.9HP High Thrust outboard

A NOTE ABOUT THE ENGINE ARRANGEMENT:
Kismet's diesel/gas outboard arrangement is unusual and deviates from the designer's original plan. For these reasons a potential buyer might be skeptical. The setup was endorsed by the original designer/builder and the installation of the diesel was done professionally. The advantages of the diesel are: 1) more power; 2) quieter long range motoring; 3) the possibility for hot water onboard 4) battery recharge. There may be fear that the boat will not drive straight without a symmetrical engine setup, but that is not the case. The boat steers straight with both engines running, even when they are not delivering equal thrust. The boat also steers straight when only one engine is running after some forward movement is achieved - at very slow speed the boat will pull to one side as the power is applied (unless power is applied slowly). Using the engines in a forward/reverse combination works exactly the same way as larger cats with two diesels - the boat can rotate within its own length, giving the sailor confidence around tight or oddly positioned fuel docks and pump out stations, or navigating large, busy marinas with intersecting fairways.
