Manufacturer Provided Description
With her 33 tons displacement, the HR 62 is extremely easy on the helm and points up to windward at a high angle as the thoroughbred she is. The speed of the HR 62 is remarkable. Her soft, elegant movements are impressive. The yacht sails perfectly balanced on the rudder and takes to the sea almost playfully. Designed by German Frers, the world class naval architect from Argentina, her speed accelerates to over 10 knots. Frers brings the experience of successes in the Whitbread and the America's Cup, and combines this with the fine yacht building traditions that have made Hallberg-Rassy world famous. With MaxFurl, the helm of the yacht feels the same as with a normal non-furling main; MaxFurl has a big roach and thus a sail area that is the same as a standard main sail. The sail has horizontal battens that can be rolled in, but there are more advantages to this sail than the larger sail area and more speed - it sails closer to the wind and rolls less when running in choppy seas and light wind. There are few yards that enjoy such global acclaim for building long distance cruisers as Hallberg-Rassy. With the HR 62 the tradition of continuously building easy to sail cruising boats with good performance is followed. Characteristic of Hallberg-Rassy, the layouts is logical, well arranged, and functional for long periods onboard either at sea or in the harbor. As on all of the HR yachts, the floor in the 62 is the same level throughout the boat. This contributes to easy access to all cabins. Following the contemporary demand, the HR 62 has a very light and airy saloon with big opening side windows as well as opening skylights. The displacement of the yacht is designed not only to give the generous stowage needed for long voyages, but also the space for all modern comfort equipment. Access to technical equipment is made easy for service, and the yacht has generous tank capacity to undertake serious cruising. Despite the fact that the boat is built as a top-of-the-range yacht, she can virtually be sailed single handed. Push buttons allow the anchor to raise and the sails and sheet to set and sheet - all from the steering pedestal. As expected on a Hallberg-Rassy, the cockpit is very well protected, generous in size, and offers good all-round visibility. It is well suited for the various demands of the most difficult climates from extreme cold to tropical heat. The cockpit offers good shelter from a hardtop or softtop, with an opening mid section that works perfectly in cold as well as heat. A powerful engine is an important part of a long distance cruiser. The HR 62's motor runs at cruising speed with a low 1,300 RPMs. Furthermore, a two geared three bladed folding propeller with overdrive provides maximum performance under power - an important point which cannot be emphasized enough for extended voyages.
